Today, an ice-resistant self-propelled platform (LSP) of project 00903, designed for the Russian Hydrometeorological Service, was laid at the Admiralty Shipyards. The construction of the vessel for polar explorers should be completed in 2020.

The customer of the LSP is the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. The contract for the design and construction of the North Pole was signed in April 2018. "Admiralty shipyards" began cutting metal for the platform on December 20, 2018.

The North Pole LSP is designed for year-round comprehensive scientific research in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. The platform is a specialized vessel with a high hull strength (ice class Arc8), autonomy in terms of fuel reserves of about 2 years and a service life of at least 25 years.

The crew is up to 14 people, the scientific staff is up to 48 people. The all-season scientific research platform with built-in equipment will be able to conduct geological, acoustic, geophysical and oceanographic observations, navigate through ice without involving an icebreaker, and receive Mi-8 or Mi-38 helicopters on its helipad. The length of the LSP is 83.1 meters, the width is 21.8 meters, the draft is 8.6 meters, and the displacement is about 10,000 tons. Main engine power; 4,200 kW, speed not less than 10 knots.
