On June 24, the ceremonial laying of the modernized Project 1496M1 border patrol boat "Lamantin" for the Coast Guard of the Russian FSB PS took place at the Vympel Shipyard.
The project was modernized by the Advanced Shipbuilding Department of the Vympel Shipyard together with the Central Research Institute of the Marine Fleet (TsNIIMF) as a development of the existing Project 1496M1.
The plant's own design bureau was created in 2015. The company received a license for the design of military equipment and began to create boats. Today we laid down a ship, the design of which was made by our own design bureau together with the customer. We have received a serious competitive advantage - we can independently design ships, promptly make changes to projects, and customers save money on design work", - said, opening the ceremony, General Director Oleg Yuryevich Belkov.
Acting Head of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia Vice Admiral Alexey Aleksandrovich Volsky, who participated in the ceremony, noted: “The uniqueness is that the design process was very fast, literally in 3-4 months. We worked in tandem, it doesn’t happen often when customers and companies work together. Now we are quickly moving on to manufacturing the boat. We are confident that the ship will be built on time.” The head of the 4th department of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, Captain 1st Rank Viktor Viktorovich Denisenko, took part in the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone: “The ship has been worked out, worked out literally down to the last screw. We are entering its construction consciously, understanding what and how we are doing. Now the floor is yours, shipbuilders. The boat will need to be built in a short time frame."
The upgraded Project 1496M1 boat "Lamantin" significantly exceeds the characteristics of the basic Project 1496M1 in its tactical and technical characteristics (speed, maneuverability, habitability, seaworthiness, ice class) and meets modern requirements for boats of this class. It will be equipped with engines from the Yaroslavl Motor Plant. The engine room of the boat will contain many Russian components.
The plant is scheduled to hand over the Project 1496M1 border patrol boat to the customer in October 2017.
