On July 1, mooring tests of the lead floating power unit of the Akademik Lomonosov NPP began at the Baltic Shipyard. During these tests, the operability and compliance of the equipment and systems of the power unit with the design characteristics will be checked.
As reported by Rosenergoatom Concern (the customer), the tests began in accordance with the calendar and network schedule for the construction of the floating power unit. According to the head of the Directorate for the Construction and Operation of Floating Nuclear Thermal Power Plants, Sergei Zavyalov, mooring tests will be carried out according to a special technological scheme and will be combined with finishing works in the premises of the handling complex, equipment and engine rooms.
“This will require high organization and increased security measures from the plant,” S. Zavyalov emphasized, adding that control from Rosenergoatom will be carried out around the clock.
For his part, the General Director of the Baltic Shipyard, Alexey Kadilov, noted that mooring trials begin "more than a year before the delivery date of the floating power unit to the customer." "This will eliminate possible deficiencies in the operation of systems, equipment and mechanisms," he said.
The scheduled completion date for mooring trials is October 30, 2017. The power unit should be ready for transportation by the end of 2017. In September 2019, Rosenergoatom plans to begin installing the power unit at its regular location (in Pevek, Chukotka), and in the fall of 2019 to begin testing the floating nuclear power plant and put it into operation.
