The Northern Maritime Museum in Arkhangelsk will host a lecture by historian Ruslan Davydov, dedicated to lesser-known events in the history of Russian icebreakers. As reported by the museum’s press service on March 22, the lecture is based on materials from recent research in Russian state archives.
The topic of the lecture is “Little-Known Events in the History of Russian Icebreakers That Had Far-Reaching Consequences.”
Key topics to be discussed:
– The operations of the icebreaker Yermak and the Arkhangelsk-Murmansk Urgent Shipping Company (1898–1899): realization of the need to establish a specialized service for the operation of the icebreaker fleet.
– The accident of the icebreaking steamship Sadko in the White Sea in 1916: the beginning of the idea to create a national ship rescue and salvage service.
The lecture is open to all interested in the history of the Russian fleet and Arctic exploration. The event will take place on Saturday, March 25, at 17:00.
