The Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard (part of USC) and the "Vodohod" company have signed an agreement for the delivery of "Karelia" cruise ships. This was announced on September 29 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
According to him, the shipyard will build three "Karelia" cruise ships for the customer. Financing will be provided through the "State Transport Leasing Company" (GTLK).
"Building civilian ships will help renew the country's fleet and increase passenger transport volumes. This requires substantial state support. The government has allocated 15 billion rubles for the construction of seven civilian ships. Part of this amount will be directed to financing the three "Karelia" cruise ships," said Manturov, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade's press service.
The "Karelia" project was developed by the "Vimpel" design bureau (part of USC). The ship is of the "river-sea" class and is intended for operation in the Caspian, Black, and White Seas, as well as on internal waterways. The first ship is expected to start operations in 2025, with the second and third ships scheduled for 2026.
