Reconstructed terminal put into operation in Murmansk
February 13, 2025

On March 28, 2017, a ceremonial opening of the transshipment terminal was held in the seaport of Murmansk.

Many years of efforts to build the terminal have made it possible to create a high-quality high-tech facility that will be integrated into the Arctic transport system and will become the starting point for Arctic projects for other companies.

New The transport and logistics hub is capable of handling 1.5 million tons of container cargo annually. The new terminal will increase the cargo turnover capacity of the Murmansk port. One and a half million tons — This is a significant volume of transshipment, which implies the creation of new jobs, the development of the Murmansk port as a whole, an increase in the investment attractiveness of the region and an increase in the status of the Murmansk port as the main port of the Arctic zone.

The opening of a new transshipment terminal will increase the volume of container and general cargo transshipment, which, in turn, will make a significant contribution to the development of the entire Arctic zone of the Russian Federation Federation.

Reference: Norilsk Nickel began building a transshipment terminal in Murmansk in 2005. The first stage of construction of the transshipment terminal began in January 2010. In April 2014, berth No. 1 began its regular operation (length 162 m, vessel draft up to 10.7 m). The second stage of construction was launched in August 2015. The project included a large-scale reconstruction of berth No. 2 (length 311 m, vessel draft up to 11.2 m) with the adjacent infrastructure. Berth No. 2 was built in the late 1930s, and its technical condition no longer allowed it to receive vessels and handle cargo. As part of the project to reconstruct the transshipment terminal in the seaport, work was carried out to construct a new front wall and erect the berth superstructure, lay crane tracks, two railway lines, and install utility networks. The modernization included large-scale dredging, installation of cranes and rear container handlers, and other activities. Today, this is one of the largest investment projects for the development of transport infrastructure in the Arctic.
