Fishing vessel launched in Kaliningrad region
February 13, 2025

On December 15, the launch of the fish carrier vessel "Captain Lobanov" took place at the Inter-Collective Farm Production Base (ZAO "MPB") in the Kaliningrad region. This is the first large-scale project implemented in Svetly in the post-Soviet years. Moreover, Kaliningrad shipbuilders note that comparable class vessels are not produced anywhere else in Russia.

"The measures being taken in the fisheries sector, including quotas under the keel and other mechanisms as instructed by the President, have significantly invigorated the interest of fishermen in fleet modernization and construction. New orders have emerged for our shipbuilders: at the Yantar Shipyard, and here in Svetly, fishermen themselves are engaged in deep modernization. I hope that soon we will move on to the construction of a new vessel. It is very pleasing that it is being designed by a local company. All this work deserves great respect and support," said one of the local officials.

The official also announced the decision to extend the fisheries development program until 2030, with an emphasis on fleet renewal: "In general, receiving and processing capacities for fish have been modernized and significantly increased. Now we need to move on to the next stage."

Deep modernization of the vessel was carried out at the Inter-Collective Farm Production Base. The site for the current repair and maintenance of the fishing fleet has been operating for several decades. Currently—with the arrival of investors and state support—infrastructure for shipbuilding is developing here, and the enterprise has transitioned from routine repairs to fleet modernization.

"The base has been active in the ship repair market for over 50 years, repairing fishing trawlers and keeping them operational. Now we are moving from routine repairs towards fleet modernization," noted Alexander Gavrilov, director of ZAO "MPB."

Shipbuilding works were conducted for one of the leaders in fish extraction in the Baltic Sea—OOO "Marine Company 'Stalactite'" (part of the Marfish group of companies). Investments in the project amounted to 115 million rubles as of November 2017.

In accordance with the project developed by OOO "Adomat," a deep modernization of a small refrigerated fishing trawler was carried out: the vessel was disassembled down to the keel sections, a complete overhaul of the hull was performed with the installation of fish tanks, and all fishing, electrical, power units, communication, and navigation equipment were replaced. Essentially, the vessel was rebuilt from scratch; compared to a standard MRTT, it boasts greater energy capacity, power, and cargo capacity.

"The vessel's power has doubled, its payload has tripled, and catch preservation has improved fivefold. This is an entirely different vessel that fully meets modern requirements," noted Nikolai Nechay, representative of the Marfish group of companies.

Experts note that Kaliningrad fishermen have received a comfortable fish carrier trawler with high efficiency indicators, meeting all the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and environmental safety standards, capable of delivering chilled fish to the dock.

All engineering, design, and shipbuilding works were completed by local companies.
