The Russian State Corporation "Rosatom" has announced a new record for cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR). In 2024, total cargo volume reached 37.9 million tonnes — surpassing the previous record by more than 1.6 million tonnes.
The year also marked record levels of transit activity: a total of 92 transit voyages were completed, and over 3 million tonnes of transit cargo were transported.
These results highlight the continued development of the NSR as a strategic transport corridor in the Arctic. The growth is in line with the Presidential Decree of May 7, 2018, which sets a target of 80 million tonnes of cargo throughput along the NSR by 2024.
