Admiralty Shipyards has launched the factory sea trials (FST) of the Kronshtadt submarine, the first serial vessel of Project 677 Lada-class. Trials are taking place in the Gulf of Finland under the supervision of shipyard specialists and customer representatives.
The purpose of the trials is a comprehensive assessment of the submarine’s readiness and the performance of all key systems prior to its delivery to the Russian Navy.
The FST program includes:
Testing of speed and maneuverability
Evaluation of the sonar (hydroacoustic) system
Trials of navigation and communication systems
Testing of the retractable mast systems
Inclining and trim experiments
About Project 677 Kronshtadt is the first serial-built diesel-electric submarine of the advanced Project 677, following the lead vessel St. Petersburg. Based on operational experience with the prototype, numerous upgrades have been implemented.
Key upgrades include:
Enhanced technical systems control suite
Improved electric propulsion system
Upgraded navigation complex
Project 677 submarines represent a new generation of non-nuclear subs, featuring reduced acoustic signature, increased automation, and enhanced combat capabilities.
