Construction of the third gas carrier for the Arctic LNG 2 project has begun at Zvezda

Shipbuilders of the Far Eastern shipbuilding complex Zvezda have begun construction of the third LNG tanker of the Arc7 ice class. The first detail of the future vessel was cut on April 12 on a plasma cutting machine in the hull production unit, the press service of the shipyard said.

A series of gas tankers is being built in the interests of PJSC Novatek for the Arctic LNG 2 project. The project for the construction of new vessels is being financed by VEB.RF. Previously, between SSK Zvezda and the companies of the VEB Group.The Russian Federation has signed contracts for the construction of 15 gas carriers designed to transport liquefied natural gas in difficult ice conditions.

The vessels will be operated under long-term time charter agreements with Arctic LNG 2 LLC (a subsidiary of Novatek PJSC) by Sovcomflot PJSC (pilot vessel) and Smart LNG LLC (a subsidiary of Sovcomflot and Novatek Group of Companies, the remaining 14 vessels of the series).

The length of the Arc7 ice-class gas tanker is 300 m, the width is 48.8 m, the capacity of cargo tanks is 172.6 thousand m3. The vessel's design allows it to independently overcome ice with a thickness of more than 2 m. The power plant of the gas carrier is 45 MW.

The tanker's propulsive complex consists of three rotary steering columns, the production of which is localized in Bolshoy Kamen at the VRC Saphir Plant, a joint venture between Rosneft and GE.

The Mark III membrane type system is used for LNG storage, which the Zvezda shipyard received a construction license from GTT.
