Construction of the NE020 "Anatoly Cherneev" passenger-cargo vessel continues at the Okskaya Shipyard in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The vessel is being built under contract for the Federal State Institution "Directorate of the State Customer" to provide maritime transportation between the Commander Islands, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and Severo-Kurilsk. The Kamchatka Krai government provided an update on the current construction stage.
According to Transport and Road Construction Minister Vladimir Kayumov, the vessel is currently 64% complete, with launching planned before the end of summer 2021. Under the contract terms, the vessel is scheduled to enter service in fall 2022.
"Current work includes installation of ship fittings, delivery of equipment and materials for hull outfitting, mounting of equipment foundations, loading pumps, transformers, and watertight doors. Additionally, welded outfitting is being installed, foundations for masts and radar posts are being set up, and preliminary installation is underway for ballast-drainage systems, fresh water cooling, fuel reception and transfer, water firefighting, diesel generator cooling systems, and standalone air conditioning units. Assembly and welding of propeller shaft brackets and rudder blades are in progress, along with manufacturing hatch covers," the regional government's press service quotes Vladimir Kayumov.
